At the Australian Industry Trade College (AITC), it’s not all about work experience, it’s also about giving back to our community. Young people in our Equine Academy will experience first-hand how the standards and integrity of the racing industry are upheld and the welfare of the incredible animals involved maintained.

The AITC Toowoomba Equine Academy young people had the amazing opportunity this week to drop into the Greyhound Adoption Program Qld, as their Gift of Giving service to the community.

The Greyhound Adoption Program is supported by the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission, an independent statutory body which oversees the welfare standards of racing animals and the integrity of racing industry participants in Queensland. A significant investment is made in the rehoming and re-education of all off-the-track animals.

Our young people met with Jeff Gordon, the Kennel and Facilities Manager, who showed them the ropes and introduced them to a handful of gorgeous greyhounds. Our AITC people were able to assist by bathing the greyhounds and cleaning out their kennels, as well as checking out their manners on the leash. It’s fair to say that every young person had an awesome time, and there may be some potential greyhound adoptions in the future!
