Latest Update – 18 January
Rookies Camp has officially commenced with busloads of young people arriving at Emu Gully Adventure Group’s site this morning. They received a welcome and briefing before getting straight into some fantastic team building activities outdoors.
This is already proving to be a transformative experience for our new young people. We can’t wait for you to see the change in them next week.

Update – 13 January
The Premier announced on Monday 11 January that there would be eased restrictions in place for Greater Brisbane up to 1am, 22 January. We are pleased to say that the Rookies Camp will go ahead as planned, albeit adhering to the Queensland Government’s recommendations and following Emu Gully Adventure Group’s COVID-safe plan.
Be reassured that activities within the AITC-developed Rookies Program remain unchanged at this time however, safety is our first thought and some adjustments are required.
What to pack
Please refer to the updated AITC Camp Kit List (also attached in the email sent 12 January). The AITC will have masks available for all camp attendees but young people are encouraged to bring their own. Face masks will be required to be worn indoors at all times (unless eating). Note, when young people are in tents, a stretcher and air mattress are provided for comfort so a yoga mat is not required.
Please also ensure your young person does not bring any items on the ‘do not bring list’, including laptops, mobiles or other devices. Rookies Camp is a ‘low-tech’ environment.
Health / Medication
Safety is our first thought at Rookies Camp. As such, all staff will check-in / check out online, and temperature testing will be mandatory upon arrival.
There will be a First Aid room and a dedicated First Aid role within each group to tend to minor first aid issues. Other first aid issues will be treated by the Camp First Aid Lead.
As per instructions in the New Starter Pack, you must have completed the Medication and Dietary Requirements Form. All medication is to be it is in the original packaging, labelled clearly in a container, and handed in on arrival, prior to boarding the bus for Emu Gully. Medication will be kept in a locked container or in the fridge if required. Asthma puffers and Epipens do not need to be handed in and should be kept on the young person at all times.
Food / Dietary
Physical distancing and food preparation procedures will be consistent with the requirements of the relevant local government agency and as per the Emu Gully COVID-safe plan, including but not limited to, staggered meal times and dedicated servers to ensure there is no cross-contamination from shared use of utensils and serving implements.
If your young person has any dietary requirements, please ensure you have completed the Medication and Dietary Requirements Form.
