AITC Weekly Connect – Reflecting on Term 1

As we conclude Term 1, with many of us needing to reset and recharge, it is timely to also reflect on what have achieved in such a short time.

Despite the ongoing challenges of COVID, as well as the weather event which caused significant floods, our young people have demonstrated resilience and determination.

Some highlights to acknowledge –

  • The opening of our new Spring Hill campus, where 27 young people proudly begin to pursue their industry pathways
  • 44 sign ups (and counting!) across 5 campuses; 10 at Toowoomba, 10 at the Gold Coast, 9 at Redlands, 9 at Ipswich and 6 at the Sunshine Coast
  • Trade Tasters at TAFE kicked off, with our young people excited to explore their options
  • Campuses assisting those in need with landscaping and labour – selflessly giving their time

This week, we welcomed over 150 prospective families into our campuses for our Open Afternoons. Feedback regarding our young people has been enormously positive and we are very appreciative of every young person who gave up their time to showcase the AITC.

Comments like the ones below highlight that we have a school community of future leaders.

“The young people who gave us a tour were respectful, well informed and enthusiastic about their College, very impressive young people!

“Your students are a credit to you.”

In exciting news, the federal government announced $365m in funding to subsidise the wages of 35,000 new apprentices as part of the 2022 budget.

This funding supports the need for businesses to “grow their own” and where better to find these apprentices than at the Australian Industry Trade College.

We look forward to Rookies Challenge during the Easter Holidays. The camp is an integral part of the AITC induction program, and we are glad that they can finally proceed! Our young people will be put through a number of challenges that require mateship and hard work, and involves plenty of mud!

Stay safe over the holidays. We look forward to Term 2 kicking off from Tuesday 19 April.
