Get a head start in the equine industry

The racing industry provides a breadth of career opportunities for young people and can take you close to home or as far away abroad as you wish.

The AITC has partnered with the Gold Coast Turf Club to develop a bespoke Equine Industry QuickStart (IQ) to run out of our Robina campus. The tailored program is designed to educate young people to become apprentices and trainees of the highest calibre, specifically for the equine industry.

You don’t have to choose between finishing school and starting your career. We are currently enrolling Year 10 and 11 students to start Term 3, who are interested in gaining a head start in the racing industry while completing senior school.

Whether your interests lie with horses, working outdoors, pursuing a trade or administration; with an industry-driven education, the right training and unmatched immersion, the Equine IQ program is sure to deliver a head start.

Why enrol in this program?

  • Finish Year 12 and gain your Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE)
  • Complete a Certificate II in Racing Industry
  • Rotate through various industry roles at Aquis Farm and the Gold Coast Turf Club
  • Commence your school-based apprenticeship or traineeship in the equine industry before you graduate
  • Grow your character and mindset to be a valuable contributor to the industry and your community.

Immerse yourself in the industry

Equine IQ participants will immerse themselves in the many facets of the equine racing industry through site visits, incursions, excursions and work experience. The industry-driven program will connect young people with employers and race clubs for managed work experience, placements and ultimately a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship in your chosen field, all whilst completing high school.

Opportunities across a breadth of disciplines

The nature of thoroughbred horse racing makes it one of the most diverse and exciting industries to be involved, offering a range of exciting career opportunities in the fields of global sports, entertainment and trades. The Queensland racing industry employs over 11,500* people (*full time or equivalent) across more than 100 venues statewide.

The Equine IQ removes barriers for Year 10 and 11 young people considering a career in the racing industry. Some of the roles in the industry include:

  • Stable Hand, Stud Hand

Program Launch

We had a brilliant turnout for our Open Day at Aquis Elysian Fields where families were able to learn more about our deliberately different, industry-driven senior school program that prepares you for the thoroughbred racing industry and the world of work. Young people enjoyed the immersive experience with the horses and heard from a panel of trainers, vets and other equine industry employees about their careers.
