Who are we?

The Australian Industry Trade College (AITC) is a co-educational school where Year 10, 11 and 12 students complete their senior secondary education and begin a school based apprenticeship or traineeship in the industry of their choice.

How are we different?

We are an industry school, not a trade school with facilities for maybe half-a-dozen trades. We teach an industry-focussed education program (English, maths, science, business and technology) on campus, and partners with employers and training organisations like TAFE Queensland to deliver any one of the roughly 600 apprenticeships or traineeships that you might be interested in. If you are unsure of which industry to choose, we give you the time to try a range of options.

We prepare young people for a career in industry by getting them out to industry. After completing our Rookies Program in your first term, you will spend 5 weeks each term learning on campus and 5-7 weeks each term with training organisations, on work experience or undertaking your apprenticeship. Where the average trade school student spends 1 or 2 days a week (roughly 35 to 70 days a year) in industry, AITC young people spend up to 140 days a year in industry.

Why are we different?

We are not a school for disinterested teens. Our young people spend so much time in industry because we are teaching tomorrow’s industry leaders. Both employers and our staff have high expectations of our young people, so in addition to core education and industry learning, you will be taught how to:

  • make eye contact and hold a conversation
  • take pride in yourself and respect those around you
  • contact employers to request work experience
  • use the right phone manner to gain work experience with those employers
  • show exemplary behaviour onsite to increase your chances of being offered an apprenticeship.

We set these expectations because employers are looking for apprentices with drive and determination, resilience and initiative. The responsibility for contacting employers and finding placements will be yours. Ultimately, your success will be a result of your strength of character and refusal to accept anything less than a start in the career of your choice.

Why should you choose the Australian Industry Trade College?

50% of Australian 25-year-olds do not have full-time employment. In contrast, 9 out of 10 AITC graduates are signed to an apprenticeship or traineeship before they complete year 12. They move straight from school into full-time employment in the career of their choice.

Where are we?

The AITC currently has five campuses across southeast Queensland; Gold Coast (Robina), Redlands, Sunshine Coast (Maroochydore), Toowoomba and Ipswich.
